FC Zurich Beats FC Wil and Reaches the Cup Semi-Finals

FC Zurich has won its cup semi-final against FC Wil tonight and is through to the next round. Just five minutes had been played when Mario Gavranovic found himself all alone in front of FC Wil keeper Zotti after an opening pass by Adis Jahovic. And the Swiss national striker kept his cool: He slid the ball into the net and put FC Zurich into an early lead. But FC Wil had a suitable answer when Muslin scored the well-deserved equalizer for the home team in the 28th minute. The 1:1 half-time score pretty much reflected the goings-on on the pitch.

As neither of the two teams managed to score the game-deciding goal during the second half, the game went into extra time – into which FC Zurich had an ideal start as Milan Gajic scored the celebrated 2:1 lead in the 93rd minute already. This lead was not to last long though, as former FC Zurich U21 player Ivan Audino scored the 2:2 equalizer just two minutes later. The game now turned into a cracking cup match. And although FC Zurich was mostly in control, the brave FC Wil team was not going to back down just yet and still believed they could get the better end. But in the 114th minute, Josip Drmic ultimately crushed FC Wil's hopes for a comeback when he scored the match-winning 3:2. Schönbächler's 4:2 in the 118th minute then sealed Wil’s fate and put FC Zurich through to the cup semi-finals, where they'll be facing local rivals Grasshoppers on 17 April 2013.

Already this Saturday, the team will be playing their next league home game against FC Sion at the Letzigrund Stadium.
