3:1 Win against FC Sion – FC Zurich Still Unbeaten in 2013

After the fourth league game of the second half of the season, FC Zurich still remains unbeaten in 2013. After beating both FC Lausanne-Sport (2:0) and YB (4:0) and drawing with FC Lucerne (1:1), FC Zurich had another successful evening at the Letzigrund Stadium tonight. The team defeated FC Sion comfortably 3:1 without ever running the risk of losing the game. With this win, FC Zurich is currently ranked mid-table of the Swiss Super League.

With two goals, Josip Drmic once again proved how valuable he is for FC Zurich and showed that he is in great shape at the moment. The striker scored FC Zurich’s first goal of the night just 13 minutes into the match and the 1:0 lead made the players more self-confident. The home team was now in total control of the action on the pitch and did not allow FC Sion many scoring opportunities. But the crowd still had to wait until the 38th minute before Marco Schönbächler provided the 2:0. Schönbächler has been on the squad for every match under head coach Urs Meier this year and has certainly been one of the high flyers so far in 2013.

The critical point of today’s encounter was when Ndjeng scored completely out of the blue in the 62nd minute and shortened Sion's deficit to just one goal. However, Drmic had the perfect answer only one minute later when he put the ball into the net for the second time tonight and decided the match with the 3:1.

With this victory, FC Zurich has increased their lead on bottom club Servette FC from Geneva to 12 points. FC Zurich will have their next opportunity for three points in their away game against FC Thun on Sunday, March 10th.
