FC Zurich Loses 2:4 against Local Rivals Grasshopper Club

FC Zurich has lost tonight's spectacular encounter against local rivals Grasshopper Club 2:4. The home team was 0:2 down just 25 minutes into the game, but FC Zurich fought its way back into the match and had enough opportunities to grab the 3 points. However, Grasshopper Club scored two more goals from corners and got the better end of a match which also saw some controversial referee decisions.

In the 13th minute, Hajrovic opened the score from the spot and put Grasshopper Club 0:1 ahead. FC Zurich tried to respond immediately and created several opportunities to score the equalizer. However, the home side failed to put the ball into the net and instead, the visitors increased their lead to 0:2 – Chikhaoui had needlessly lost the ball in midfield and Lang’s shot found its way into the FC Zurich goal. The shot was deflected by defender Raphael Koch and goalkeeper Da Costa didn’t stand a chance. Despite this deficit, the host team did not lose hope and showed true character – and this paid off: Milan Gajic converted a penalty before the halftime whistle and reduced Grasshopper Club’s lead to just one goal.

After the break, FC Zurich got back onto the pitch highly motivated and, after a one-two pass between Gavranovic and Chikhaoui, the Tunisian midfielder’s perfect delivery into the center found Gajic, who scored his second goal of the night and equalized the game (2:2). The match could have gone either way now, but the visitors scored two more goals after corners (one of them from an offside position) and snatched the 2:4 win.

FC Zurich will be playing a Super League away match against FC Basel next Sunday, before again facing Grasshopper Club in the cup semi-finals on Wednesday, 17 April.
