FC Zurich Loses the Cup Semi-Final versus Grasshopper Club

FC Zurich has lost its cup semi-final against local rivals Grasshopper Club tonight and has been eliminated from the competition.

FC Zurich got into the game a little better than their opponents and missed a first opportunity to take the lead in the 17th minute when Grasshopper Club keeper Bürki denied Gavranovic's header miraculously. But just 6 minutes later, Loris Benito headed the ball into the net after a corner and put the home side 1:0 ahead. Shortly after, Drmic even had the opportunity to increase FC Zurich’s advantage to 2 goals, but his shot missed the target narrowly. Instead, Feltscher converted one of Grasshopper Club‘s few chances before the half-time break and scored the lucky equalizer completely out of the blue. Since neither of the two teams managed to score the game-winning goal until the full-time whistle, the game went into extra time.

Just 4 minutes into extra time, Hajrovic scored the game-winning goal for the visitors from around 20 meters. FC Zurich had a few more scoring opportunities to save themselves to penalties, but they unfortunately could not convert any of these chances.

FC Zurich will be playing their next home game versus Super League bottom club Servette FC from Geneva this Saturday.
