FC Zurich Beats AFC Bournemouth 2:0
In its fourth pre-season match, head coach Urs Meier’s team of FC Zurich has finally claimed the first win – they beat AFC Bournemouth 2:0. The conditions at sports ground Waldegg in Horgen above Lake Zurich were magnificent.
AFC Bournemouth, which got promoted to the League Championship at the end of last season, showed a fiercely competitive game, but hardly managed to create any scoring opportunities. Quite to the contrary FC Zurich, which deserved this victory with a convincing performance even by this margin. In the 25th minute, Mario Gavranovic dribbled past Bournemouth goalkeeper Allsop and slid the ball into the net; just before the final whistle, Marco Schönbächler put the final score to 2:0 with a diagonal shot. Newly signed Israeli national player Avi Rikan made his debut for FC Zurich, and returnee Alain Nef played his first game in about 7 years for the club after his return to Zurich at the beginning of the month.
