FC Zurich Suffers 2:3 Defeat against FC Lucerne

In its third game of the season, FC Zurich has suffered the first defeat against FC Lucerne this afternoon. The team of head coach Urs Meier completely gave away the first half and was already 0:2 behind after the first 45 minutes.

But the second half saw an entirely changed Zurich side: In the 58th minute, Mario Gavranovic scored the first goal for the visitors when he lobbed the ball delicately over FC Lucerne goalkeeper David Zibung, reviving the hopes of the FC Zurich supporters that their team might get back into this game. But the sweltering heat in Lucerne and a very well-organized and defensively compact home side soon crushed these hopes – and the match was ultimately decided when FC Lucerne’s Bozanic scored his second goal of the afternoon to increase the home side’s lead to 2 goals. The game had already gone into stoppage time when Pedro Henrique converted a free kick and beat FC Lucerne’s goalkeeper with a lovely ball into the upper left-hand corner to put the final score to 2:3.

One victory, one draw, and one defeat – FC Zurich’s record after the first three games of the season is in balance. They will have another opportunity to win 3 points next Sunday in their next home game against Young Boys Berne – the current leaders of the Swiss Super League.
