FC Zurich with 1:2 Defeat against Slovan Liberec

Today's first leg match versus Slovan Liberec can be summarized as follows: FC Zurich took the lead early in the game, was in total control of the action on the pitch for more than an hour, but still lost in the end. About 400 FC Zurich supporters cheered the team on at the top of their voices throughout the 90 minutes and encouraged the players magnificently!

The home team from Liberec had their first opportunity just two minutes into the game, but then FC Zurich quickly took over control – and at times even dominated their opponents at will during the first half.

FC Zurich's first chance could very well have opened the score tonight, but Slovan Liberec goalkeeper Kovar denied a shot by Pedro Henrique. Just one minute later, FC Zurich midfielder Avi Rikan was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty – Davide Chiumiento converted without any problems to put his side 1:0 up.

FC Zurich had several more chances and could have increased their lead still inside 15 minutes. However, both Benito (free kick, 9th minute) and Chermiti (12th minute) missed their promising opportunities. For more than an hour, the visitors from Switzerland were the better team and in full control. But unfortunately, they could not keep up their good performance from the first 45 minutes and granted FC Slovan Liberec too much freedom during the second half. The Czechs were able to take advantage of this new found space and punished the Swiss mercilessly with two goals to put the final score to 2:1 for the home side.

But thanks to the away goal, anything is still possible for FC Zurich in the second leg which will be played at the Letzigrund Stadium next Thursday, August 8th.
