FC Zurich Wins Cup Game against FC Bassersdorf 6:0

FC Zurich has qualified for the second round of the Swiss Cup without any problems this afternoon. In front of a great crowd – 2,800 fans in the sold out football ground in Bassersdorf, a town located in the greater Zurich area – the team of head coach Urs Meier beat amateur club FC Bassersdorf 6:0. Coach Meier was not happy with the first 15 minutes of the match, and he therefore kept urging his players on at the top of his voice. This encouragement soon showed the desired effect: Marco Schönbächler scored twice within just four minutes and put the favorites 2:0 up.

After the half-time break, the home club’s strengths dwindled as the game wore on, and FC Zurich created more and more scoring opportunities for themselves: Pedro Henrique (2 goals) and again Schönbächler managed to increase the score to 5:0 in quick succession. Ultimately, Stjepan Kukuruzovic, who had got on the pitch just a few minutes earlier, scored the last goal of the match.

Unlike a couple of other Super League teams, FC Zurich was never really in any danger of being eliminated from the Swiss Cup in the first round today - but it’s also clear that this victory won’t be overestimated.
