Goalless Draw between FC Zurich and FC St Gallen

Lots of scoring opportunities in a lively game, but no goals: That’s how one could sum up today’s encounter between FC Zurich and FC St Gallen. With this result, both teams have missed their chance to establish themselves among the top teams of the league. All in all, the visitors from Eastern Switzerland had more ball possession.

In front of a crowd of more than 10,000 supporters in the Letzigrund Stadium, the visiting team had the better start to the game and had a first excellent opportunity to open the score when Martic hit the crossbar just inside 4 minutes. The home team, on the other hand, had to get over a first setback after a mere 25 minutes of play: Gavranovic had to leave the pitch injured and was replaced by Yassine Chikhaoui – the Tunisian midfielder got to play his first game of the current season for FC Zurich.

The team of head coach Urs Meier now finally got into the match a little better, but it was particularly during the second half that FC Zurich succeeded in increasing the pressure on their opponents. However, Chikhaoui and Chermiti as well as Kukuruzovic were denied by FC St Gallen goalkeeper Daniel Lopar, who showed a magnificent performance this afternoon and saved his team the draw. After the final whistle, both teams had earned a well-deserved point in a very animated and lively game.

FC Zurich will be playing their next competitive game on 15 September (second round of the Swiss Cup against FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy). To bridge the time until then, FC Zurich will be facing FC Wil (Swiss Challenge League) and SC Freiburg (German Bundesliga) in two friendlies.
