FC Zurich Loses Home Game against FC Aarau 1-2
FC Zurich Wins Cup Match against FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy 3-2

FC Zurich Beats FC Lausanne-Sport 2-1

FC Zurich has played their first Super League match after four weeks (league suspended due to world cup qualifiers and Swiss cup match) away against FC Lausanne-Sport today. Portuguese defender Jorge Teixeira, who had been loaned to Italian club Siena for six months and had then missed the beginning of the current season due to an injury, has made his first appearance with FC Zurich’s first team.

There were hardly any highlights at all during the opening minutes of the game until FC Zurich took the lead with the very first scoring opportunity on 22 minutes: Schönbächler curled a free kick into the middle and behind the home side’s defense, where Teixeira got his foot on the ball and fired it into the far corner of the net to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Virtually on the half-time whistle, FC Lausanne-Sport very nearly managed to equalize the score: After a free kick, the ball ended up in front of Lausanne striker Coly, who hoofed the ball over the crossbar from close range.

But just five minutes after the half-time break, the home side succeeded in converting their next scoring opportunity: Meoli jumped higher than FC Zurich’s Chikhaoui and Philippe Koch after a corner and headed the ball into the net to put FC Lausanne-Sport level (1-1). The match seemed to be ending in a draw, and it was not until stoppage time that Philippe Koch secured the three points for FC Zurich with a well-timed and precise shot into the bottom left corner of the net – it was the very first Super League goal for the defender.

FC Zurich will be playing their next match against FC Aarau this Thursday.
