FC Zurich has lost tonight’s home game against newly promoted FC Aarau 1-2.

During the first 15 minutes of the match, FC Zurich had several promising opportunities to take the lead: After a cross by Philippe Koch, Mario Gavranovic tried to volley the ball into the net, but his try ended up in the hands of FC Aarau keeper Mall. Only one minute later, Chiumiento's shot from far range hit the post and shortly afterwards, Maurice Brunner couldn't convert a perfect pass by Davide Mariani – his shot just wasn’t precise enough.

After the visitors from Aarau had survived the first quarter of an hour without conceding a goal, they became more self-confident and also created a few chances themselves. Not even 30 minutes into the game, Callà converted one of these opportunities: the ball got deflected off a Zurich defender and fell down in front of the FC Aarau midfielder who put his team 0-1 ahead. But it got even worse for the home side when Senger increased the lead to 0-2 just before the break. After the half-time whistle, the fans at the Letzigrund Stadium showed their discontent with a hail of catcalls, but they were of course still hoping for a better FC Zurich performance during the second half.

And their hopes were not disappointed: About 20 minutes before the final whistle, there were glimmers of hope that FC Zurich might still turn this game around when Franck Etoundi surprised FC Aarau keeper Mall with a shot into the near corner, reducing the visitors' lead to just one goal. However, although FC Zurich’s players were now in control of the game, they did not manage to score another goal and had to leave the pitch as losers.

FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne in their next away game this Sunday.
