FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC Lucerne 0-2 tonight.

The visitors from central Switzerland had a better start to the game and created a few good scoring opportunities for themselves during the first 10 minutes of the match already.

The home side from Zurich, on the other hand, only got into the game after about 30 minutes; it was, however, FC Lucerne who opened the score in the 39th minute – Kahraba took advantage of a mistake in the Zurich build-up and slid the ball past keeper Da Costa to put the visitors 0-1 in the lead.

FC Zurich should have scored the equalizer just before the half-time whistle: after a one-two with Amine Chermiti, Tunisian midfielder Yassine Chikhaoui found himself all alone in front of FC Lucerne goalkeeper Zibung, but his shot was wide.

On 45 minutes, FC Lucerne had the last opportunity of the first half when referee Amhof awarded a penalty after a foul on the edge of the FC Zurich box. But keeper Da Costa saved Dario Lezcano’s try from the spot and kept the home side’s hopes alive for the second half.

Unfortunately, those hopes were soon disappointed as FC Zurich wasn’t really able to create any more scoring opportunities during the remainder of the match – FC Lucerne’s defenders were keeping it just too tight at the back. Tonight’s encounter was ultimately decided in the 81st minute when Puljic headed the ball home after a corner and increased the visitors’ lead to 0:2.

FC Zurich will be playing their next away game against FC Aarau on Sunday, 20 October.
