After losing their last two games to FC Lucerne and FC Aarau, FC Zurich have drawn Super League leaders FC Basel 0-0 this afternoon.

FC Zurich had their first scoring opportunity of the match in the 8th minute when Mario Gavranovic got ahead of the FC Basel defense and was only just denied a shot on goal. Shortly after, Basel's Diaz tried to beat FC Zurich goalkeeper Malloth with a shot from wide range, but the keeper was able to save his try. In the 20th minute, the home side's goal was again in the center of attention when keeper Malloth got very lucky as a shot by Delgado that had been deflected by a Zurich defender bounced off the post.

Just two minutes later and after a foul on Davide Mariani on the very edge of the box, referee Studer awarded FC Zurich a penalty – but unfortunately, Davide Chiumiento’s unprecise shot from the spot was saved by Basel keeper Sommer. During the next few minutes, FC Zurich's Gavranovic, Teixeira, Benito and Rikan created a few more promising opportunities to put the home team in the lead, but none of them was able to put the ball into the Basel net and open the score.

As the second half progressed, FC Basel gradually took over control of the game, but FC Zurich’s dangerous counterattacks meant that the match could have gone either way until the very last minute. It was again Gavranovic who had FC Zurich's best scoring opportunity after the half-time break when he got to rush onto FC Basel keeper Sommer after a pass into the center by Mariani – his shot, however, was off target and the score remained 0-0 until the final whistle.

FC Zurich will be playing their next Super League match against local rivals Grasshoppers this Wednesday.
