FC Zurich Loses Away Game to Local Rivals Grasshopper Club 1-3

FC Zurich have lost the 234th encounter with local rivals Grasshopper Club 1-3 tonight.

FC Zurich had their first opportunity of the night after 16 minutes when Mario Gavranovic played a pass into the center to Pedro Henrique. Although Grasshopper keeper Bürki got there first, he wasn’t able to clear the ball so that Stjepan Kukuruzovic was given the opportunity to tuck the ball into the deserted goal. But unfortunately, the FC Zurich player didn’t succeed in lifting the ball over Bürki to open the score.

Instead of taking the lead, worse came to worse and FC Zurich conceded the 1-0 just a couple of minutes later: After a cross into the box by Lang, Zurich defender Philippe Koch lost the tackle against Caio, and the Brazilian striker beat keeper David Da Costa who didn’t stand a chance.

After the half-time break, FC Zurich got into the game a little better. However, 56 minutes into the match, it was again the host team who scored and increased their lead to 2-0: Toko sneaked past the disorganized Zurich defense, found himself all alone in front of Da Costa and put the ball into the net.

20 minutes before the final whistle, it seemed like this match could still turn out for the better for FC Zurich when they got a goal back almost out of the blue and drew new hope: Grasshopper Club defender Vilotic had deflected a cross into his own net. But again, the equalizer was just not meant to happen. Instead, it was again Caio who decided the game for the home side with his second goal of the night in the 83rd minute.

FC Zurich will be playing their next Super League away game this Sunday against FC Thun.
