After five Super League games without a win, FC Zurich have finally celebrated a victory again in today’s encounter with FC Sion. Head coach Urs Meier’s team from Zurich beat the team from Valais 4-1.

Just 16 minutes into the match, FC Zurich’s Brazilian midfielder Pedro Henrique opened the score with a precise shot into the bottom-left corner and put his team 1-0 up. Another 16 minutes later, Marco Schönbächler found himself in front of FC Sion keeper Vanins after a well-timed one-two with Mario Gavranovic and doubled the home side’s lead to 2-0.

During the second half, FC Zurich did not pull back and merely defend their lead but instead kept on attacking and tried to score another goal to decide the match once and for all. And in the 59th minute, Mario Gavranovic was successful: The Swiss national player, who turned 24 today, scored the 3-0 with a magnificent shot into the far corner; FC Sion keeper Andris Vanins didn’t stand a chance. Gavranovic scored his second goal of the day (4-0) only a few minutes later; the visitors got their only goal just five minutes before the final whistle (an own goal off a deflection from Raphael Koch) to put the final score to 4-1.

FC Zurich will be playing their next Super League game this Sunday away against FC St Gallen.
