Four Consecutive Wins: FC Zurich Beat FC Aarau 2-1

FC Zurich have beaten FC Aarau 2-1 tonight and have celebrated their fourth win in a row.

After victories against FC Sion, FC St Gallen and FC Thun, the team of head coach Urs Meier also beat FC Aarau in tonight’s away game. The 2-1 win at the Brügglifeld Stadium was the first victory against FC Aarau this season after two defeats during the first half of the championship – and it was a well-deserved three points for the visitors from Zurich.

On a muddy pitch and in difficult conditions, the FC Zurich players were ready from kick-off and created a number of excellent scoring opportunities for themselves. Shortly before the half-time whistle and contrary to what the two teams had shown on the pitch so far it was, however, the home side from Aarau which took the lead: Alain Schultz surprised Zurich keeper David Da Costa with a free kick from long range on 40 minutes.

But FC Zurich would not give in and kept on attacking also during the second half – efforts which paid off. Just 10 minutes after the break, Avi Rikan equalized the score after a perfectly timed and clever pass by Franck Etoundi. And on 88 minutes, Pedro Henrique even scored the game-winning 2-1 for FC Zurich from the spot; the Brazilian midfielder himself had been fouled in the box and had taken on the responsibility to convert the penalty and secure his team the three points.

With this victory, FC Zurich remain ranked 5th of the Swiss Super League table but have managed to close the gap to the top 4. They will be facing local rivals Grasshopper Club next Saturday evening.
