FC Zurich Suffer 0-2 Defeat against Grasshopper Club Zurich

FC Zurich have lost the away game against local rivals Grasshopper Club 2-0 tonight. With this result, the team of head coach Urs Meier hasn’t scored a single goal since March 9th.

Both teams had an offensive beginning to the game, and FC Zurich had the first good opportunity on 17 minutes when Davide Chiumiento played the ball to Franck Etoundi – but the Cameroonian striker’s ball was too high and went over the goal of Grasshopper keeper Bürki.

37 minutes in, it was however the home side which scored the first goal of the night: FC Zurich’s defense afforded Grasshopper Club’s Brazilian player Caio way too much freedom – and his shot from around 25 meters hit the back of the net behind FC Zurich keeper David Da Costa. The FC Zurich players tried to react immediately and created several promising chances to equalize the score; but unfortunately, none of them were converted.

The beginning of the second half was then a complete disappointment for the visitors: after a return pass by defender Ivan Kecojevic which turned out to be too short, it was again Caio who increased Grasshopper Club’s lead to 2-0. Throughout the remainder of the game, FC Zurich then also scored two goals – but both of them were disallowed for offside, two very close and disputed calls by the referee.

FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne at home next Sunday afternoon.
