FC Zurich Loses Home Game against FC Lucerne 1-2

After FC Zurich won the Würth Swiss cup on Easter Monday, they had a disappointing return to the Super League championship this evening. The team of head coach Urs Meier lost their game against FC Lucerne 1-2 and suffered their fourth defeat in the fourth game of the season against these opponents.

The home team from Zurich had a successful start to the game though when FC Zurich striker Armando Sadiku opened the score just 12 minutes in; Davide Chiumiento’s delivery had set him up nicely. The home side tried to increase their lead during the next few minutes but unfortunately, they were not able to convert any of their various promising scoring opportunities – again Sadiku and Franck Etoundi were denied by Lucerne keeper David Zibung, and after approximately half an hour, a shot by Marco Schönbächler hit the post.

Following this encouraging phase for FC Zurich, the visitors from Lucerne got into the game a little better and managed to create several chances to equalize the score. On 52 minutes: Alain Wiss suddenly found himself all alone in front of David Da Costa and slid the ball past the FC Zurich keeper to put the score to 1-1. FC Zurich’s players were now lacking the necessary strength and power after a tiring and eventful week and were not able to find their way back into the match. Instead, Hyka played a precise pass to Adrian Winter who scored the 1-2 and decided the game for the visitors.

FC Zurich will be playing their next Super League game away against FC Thun this coming Saturday.
