FC Zurich beat FC Thun 2-1 tonight thanks to two goals just before the half-time whistle.

During the opening minutes of the game, FC Thun were the more active team on the pitch, and in the 2nd minute, Marco Schneuwly had the first promising scoring opportunity of the evening. His shot with his weaker left foot did not pose FC Zurich keeper David Da Costa too many problems, though. Throughout the first half hour, the visitors were pushed back into their own defense several times.

Following a corner after 26 minutes, Thun’s Marco Schneuwly headed the ball towards the Zurich goal, but Davide Mariani managed to clear his try off the line at the very last moment – even TV footage was not conclusive on whether the ball had actually crossed the line or not.

FC Zurich finally opened the score in the 39th minute when Avi Rikan scored the 1-0 for the visitors after some fine passing from Gavranovic, Benito and Chiumiento. And just 4 minutes later, Mario Gavranovic even doubled FC Zurich’s lead from the spot (the ball had hit Ferreira’s arm in the box).

Despite several dangerous scoring opportunities for both sides during the second half, FC Thun only succeeded in scoring one goal when Sadik put the final result to 1-2 on 80 minutes, and FC Zurich claimed the three points.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Sion in their next away game next Tuesday evening.
