FC Zurich have lost their away game against FC Sion 0-1 tonight – the main reason for this defeat was certainly the visitors’ inability to convert any of their many opportunities.

From kickoff, FC Zurich tried to control the action on the pitch and dominate their opponents. After just 11 minutes, they had their first opportunity when a cross by Loris Benito found Armando Sadiku in the middle – but unfortunately, the Albanian striker’s effort was just a few inches over the bar.

Approximately 30 minutes in, it was again Benito who played a well-timed pass to Mario Gavranovic. The Swiss national played the ball to Avi Rikan, but his shot was denied by Andris Vanins in the FC Sion goal. Still before the half-time whistle, the Sion keeper had to save further tries by Gavranovic and Sadiku to keep a clean sheet.

The team from Zurich got back into the game really well after the half-time break, but contrary to how the match had been going, Assifuah put the home side in the lead from close range in the 52nd minute – with virtually their very first promising opportunity of the evening. Brecher in the Zurich goal didn’t stand a chance.

FC Zurich tried to react immediately and created several chances for themselves – none of which were converted, however. Consequently, the home side celebrated a rather lucky win and claimed all three points.

FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen in their next home game this coming Saturday evening.
