FC Zurich have won their final away game of the season against newly relegated FC Lausanne-Sport 1-0 tonight. Avi Rikan scored the only goal of the evening five minutes after the break.

FC Zurich head coach Urs Meier was not able to count on no less than 15 players for various reasons. Therefore, 17-year-old midfielder Nico Elvedi got to make his Super League debut tonight – he showed a very convincing performance. Goalkeeper Yanick Brecher had several saves and celebrated his first clean sheet in his third Super League match. And for the first time in a few months, Zurich’s Tunisian striker Amine Chermiti was back in the starting line-up.

The visitors from Zurich had to survive a couple of difficult moments during the opening minutes when the home side had several good scoring opportunities – luckily, they were able to ward off all of these attempts. But since FC Zurich did not succeed in converting any of their chances either, the first half ended 0-0.

After the half-time break, FC Zurich finally opened the score: On 50 minutes, a cross by Marco Schönbächler found Avi Rikan in the middle, and the Israeli midfielder netted in, catching Lausanne keeper Antonio wrong-footed. Mario Gavranovic and Pedro Henrique both had further opportunities to double FC Zurich’s lead to 2-0, but unfortunately, all of these chances were left out. And since FC Lausanne-Sport were also not able to score a goal in their last Super League home game before being relegated to the Swiss Challenge League, FC Zurich grabbed the three points.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Aarau in their last game of the 2013/14 season at the Letzigrund Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
