FC Zurich Beat FC Thun 2-1

FC Zurich have won the second game of the new season tonight. Yassine Chikhaoui scored both goals in their 2-1 over FC Thun.

During the opening minutes of the game, the players of head coach Urs Meier’s team from Zurich showed more initiative than their opponents from the Bernese Oberland. Consequently, FC Zurich keeper David Da Costa’s saves were only needed when FC Thun tried to threaten his goal from long range.

After little over half an hour, Chikhaoui finally scored the first goal of the night: Amine Chermiti would not give up on a pass that turned out a little too long and set up Chikhaoui – the FC Zurich captain kept his cool and curled the ball into the far corner of the net, putting his side 1-0 up.

About an hour in, the visitors were unlucky when a shot by Kaludjerovic hit the outside of the post. And with virtually the next Zurich attack, Chikhaoui scored what most people in the stadium thought would be the decisive goal. He came out the winner in a one-on-one at the half-way line, dribbled all the way towards the FC Thun goal and tucked the ball away past keeper Leite to put his team 2-0 up.

On 73 minutes, however, FC Thun regained hope when Kaludjerovic scored the 2-1 after a set-piece, narrowing their deficit to just one goal – but it turned out that this was the only goal the visitors were going to get tonight and FC Zurich grabbed the three points.

FC Zurich will be playing their next game of the 2014/15 season away against newly promoted FC Vaduz on Sunday.
