1-1 Draw between FC Zurich and FC Lucerne
The Super League game between FC Zurich and FC Lucerne has finished in a 1-1 draw this evening.
FC Lucerne started the match very forcefully, putting a lot of pressure on their opponents from Zurich and pushing them back into their own half time and again. On 11 minutes already, the home team scored the opener with one of their first opportunities: Adrian Winter played a cross to the middle, where Marco Schneuwly nicked the ball over the line to put his side 1-0 up – a deserved lead.
After a couple of promising opportunities on both ends of the pitch, FC Zurich also got on the scoreboard before the half-time whistle: In the 39th minute, Ivan Kecojevic headed a cross by Oliver Buff into the net and equalized for the visitors. FC Zurich were very lucky only one minute later when the referee didn’t see a handball by Yassine Chikhaoui in the Zurich box – FC Lucerne should have been awarded a penalty at this point.
Unfortunately, FC Zurich were not able to carry the momentum of the equalizer over into the second half – quite to the contrary: FC Lucerne had several more chances to take the lead again and were closer to victory. And bad news just five minutes before the final whistle when Zurich’s Tunisian captain Chikhaoui saw his second yellow card of the night for a foul on keeper Zibung and got sent off.
FC Zurich will be playing their next game on Thursday evening when the team of head coach Urs Meier will be facing Slovakian club FC Spartak Trnava in the first leg away match of the UEFA Europa League Play-offs.
