Würth Swiss Cup: FC Zurich Beat FC Schönbühl 7-0
FC Zurich have won their Würth Swiss Cup game against FC Schönbühl 7-0 this afternoon.
Due to various absences, head coach Urs Meier nominated a changed and rather young squad compared to last week’s UEFA Europa League play-off match against Slovakian club FC Spartak Trnava: Yassine Chikhaoui and Oliver Buff were suspended, Avi Rikan and Ivan Kecojevic injured. They should however both be able to make the team for the second leg game in St Gallen next Thursday.
After a few missed chances, Franck Etoundi opened the score with a header in the 14th minute and doubled Zurich’s lead to 2-0 just three minutes later. On 24 minutes, Cédric Brunner scored his first ever goal in a competitive match with FC Zurich’s first team – a beautiful shot from approximately 25 meters. Still before the half-time whistle, it was then again Cameroonian striker Etoundi who increased the visitors’ lead to 4-0.
After the break, Mike Kleiber, another young player on FC Zurich’s squad, scored the 5-0, also celebrating his first goal for the club. Two goals by Maurice Brunner in the 61st and the 81st minute put the final score to 7-0 for FC Zurich.
FC Zurich will be facing Black Stars in the next round of the Würth Swiss Cup on 20 or 21 September 2014.
