FC Zurich have won their Würth Swiss Cup round of 32 match against FC Black Stars 2-1 after extra time this afternoon and are through to the next round.

Although the visitors from Zurich were dominating the action on the pitch for the most part from kick-off, the home team were able to create the more promising opportunities for themselves during the opening minutes of the encounter. Consequently, Zurich keeper David Da Costa had to deny both Muslija after 3 minutes as well as Fazio on 17 minutes and save the draw for his teammates.

And things got even worse after 20 minutes, when FC Black Stars’ Petrovic opened the score from the spot (the ball had touched Elvedi’s hand in the box and the referee awarded a penalty). FC Zurich’s supporters did not have to wait long for the equalizer, though, as Franck Etoundi put FC Zurich level 1-1 only 10 minutes later –the Cameroonian striker’s fourth goal in this season’s Swiss Cup competition already.

FC Zurich kept on dominating their opponents also after the half-time break, forcing Black Stars keeper Beganovic to show some magnificent saves to keep the home side in the game – denying, among others, shots by Maurice Brunner (62) and Marco Schönbächler (70).

Yassine Chikhaoui and Amine Chermiti were put on towards the end of the match, and it was indeed Chermiti in the 95th minute who scored the 2-1 for the visitors.

With this victory, FC Zurich have gone through to the round of 16 of the Swiss Würth Cup, where they’ll be facing SC Cham on 29 or 30 October.
