FC Zurich Suffer 1-2 Defeat against Young Boys Berne

FC Zurich have lost this afternoon’s away game against Young Boys Berne 1-2.

The visitors from Zurich found themselves behind 0-1 just five minutes in: a long ball by Lecjaks surprised FC Zurich’s defence; Nuzzolo passed the ball to Steffen, who beat keeper David Da Costa unchallenged.

The home side withdrew way into their own half after the 1-0 lead and limited themselves to fast counterattacks – not surprisingly, FC Zurich were dominating the action on the pitch and recorded considerably more possession than their opponents during the first 45 minutes. Avi Rikan, set up by Yassine Chikhaoui, and Marco Schönbächler with a shot from long range, among others, were not able to equalize the score. Furthermore, since a few more opportunities were missed, the result remained 0-1 for Young Boys Berne until the half-time whistle.

Five minutes into the second half, the ball finally found its way into the Young Boys net – Franck Etoundi had scored the equalizer. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed as the referee had spotted a handball by the Cameroonian striker – a rather controversial decision.

Luck seemed to turn FC Zurich’s way, though, when Young Boys Berne’s Nuzzolo got booked twice within just a couple of minutes and was sent off. FC Zurich took advantage of their majority on the pitch just a few minutes later when Chikhaoui equalized the score at last on 66 minutes.

But this was it, the visitors were not going to get another goal today – quite to the contrary: Hoarau appeared in front of Da Costa out of nowhere and would not let this opportunity go by unused, scoring the 2-1 winner for the home team.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Vaduz in their next home game this coming Sunday afternoon.
