FC Zurich have lost their UEFA Europa League group stage away game against Villarreal C.F. 1-4 tonight.

Just 6 minutes in, the home side from Villarreal took the early lead when Cani beat Zurich keeper Da Costa. The visitors regained hope two minutes before the half-time whistle though when Marco Schönbächler managed to equalize the score: Yapi launched an attack on the Villarreal goal with a long pass to Yassine Chikhaoui, whose magnificent dribbling into the box drew three Spanish defenders. His attempt on goal got deflected slightly and turned into a perfect delivery for Schönbächler, who took advantage of this opportunity and netted in, putting the score to 1-1 and his team on the board.

After the break, however, the home side increased the pace and their pressure – deciding the encounter with two goals within just three minutes, one of which was a perfectly curled free-kick into the top right corner by Soriano. The final score of 1-4 reflects a well-deserved victory for Villarreal C.F.

This coming Sunday afternoon, FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen in their next Super League home game.
