FC Zurich Beat FC Aarau 1-0

FC Zurich have won their Super League away game against FC Aarau 1-0 this afternoon.

The home side from Aarau had the better start to the match and created the first opportunity for themselves in the opening minute when Andrist got to rush onto the Zurich goal – but his shot was aimed too high and went over the crossbar.

The visitors from Zurich opened the score after 14 minutes when the ball found the head of Nico Elvedi after a corner kick by Oliver Buff, and the 18-year-old defender scored his first ever Super League goal, putting his side 1-0 in the lead.

The most tragic moment of the afternoon occurred on 18 minutes when FC Aarau’s Wieser fouled Gilles Yapi viciously and was sent off without discussion. Ivorian midfielder Yapi suffered a severe knee injury and had to be replaced.

FC Zurich tried to take advantage of their superiority on the pitch. After about half an hour, Yassine Chikhaoui forced his way into Aarau’s penalty area and could only be stopped by means of a foul. Amine Chermiti converted the penalty without any problems, but since a Zurich forward had stepped into the box too early, the referee had the spot-kick retaken. And this time round, Mall in the Aarau goal saved Chermiti’s penalty, and his second and third tries were also denied by the keeper and defender Nganga.

No more goals were scored during the second half. Consequently, FC Zurich walked away with a 1-0 victory and the three points.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Sion in their next Super League away game on Saturday, 22 November.
