FC Zurich Beat Local Rivals Grasshopper Club 2-0

FC Zurich have won the 240th Zurich derby 2-0 against local rivals Grasshopper Club tonight. One of the decisive moments of the encounter was a red card against Grasshopper Club’s Michael Dingsdag after fifteen minutes.

Although FC Zurich were the more active side during the first forty-five minutes, they hardly created any clear-cut opportunities for themselves until the half-time whistle. But just seven minutes into the second half, the visitors finally took the lead when Asmir Kajevic converted a cross by Alain Nef, smashing the ball under the crossbar and putting his team 1-0 up. It was the first Super League goal for the 25-year-old Montenegrin midfielder.

And just another ten minutes later, Amine Chermiti finished off a quick Zurich counterattack and doubled Zurich’s lead to 2-0: After a pass by Davide Chiumiento, Chermiti dribbled past GC keeper Vaso Vasic and slid the ball home.

With this victory, FC Zurich have won all three derbies against local rivals Grasshopper Club this season. On 4 March 2015, they will be facing the same opponents in the Würth Swiss Cup quarter-finals.

FC Zurich will be playing their next home game against FC Aarau this coming Saturday evening.
