The Super League encounter between FC Zurich and FC Aarau has ended in a 0-0 draw tonight.

After last Saturday’s celebrated 2-0 victory over Grasshopper Club in the 240th Zurich derby, FC Zurich has suffered a setback tonight: The home side was not able to beat visitors FC Aarau, currently ranked at the bottom of the Swiss Super League table, and the game at the Letzigrund Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw. During the first half, the visitors from the canton of Aargau were even the more active side and created several good opportunities for themselves – and they could have taken the lead following a corner kick: But luckily for FC Zurich, Avi Rikan found himself in the right spot and managed to clear the ball off the line. And a little over half an hour in, FC Aarau should have certainly opened the score when forward Petar Sliskovic appeared all alone in front of Zurich keeper Da Costa and missed the empty net, throwing away this huge chance.

The team of head coach Urs Meier got into the match a bit better after the half-time break but was not able to create many clear-cut opportunities as the Aarau defence was solid and well-organised. The best opportunity for FC Zurich popped up in injury time when a shot by Francisco Rodriguez hit the crossbar. But all in all, the home side just didn’t play well enough to really deserve the three points tonight. With this draw, FC Zurich remains third of the league.

In their next game – the Würth Swiss Cup quarter-finals – FC Zurich will be facing local rivals Grasshopper Club this coming Wednesday evening (kick-off 8:15pm).
