FC Zurich have lost their home match against FC St Gallen by 1-2 tonight.

Tonight’s loss against the visitors from Eastern Switzerland was not at all deserved and very unlucky indeed as the team of head coach Urs Meier was the better side for most part of the encounter – despite many injured and suspended players. In the 32nd minute, the Zurich supporters in the Letzigrund Stadium got to celebrate the first goal of the night: striker Franck Etoundi netted in in magnificent fashion with a powerful shot. Just before his effort, the Cameroonian player had lost one of his shoes, but the referee allowed this goal although the FC St Gallen players protested vehemently.

After taking the lead, the home side did not pull back into their own half to rest on this advantage, instead creating a bunch of promising opportunities for themselves. But unfortunately, they lacked the efficiency required and let these chances go by unused. As a consequence, “Murphy‘s Law“ came true once again: St Gallen’s Goran Karanovic, who had only just come on a few moments earlier, scored two goals within less than 20 minutes, sealing victory and the three points for the visitors.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Aarau in their next away game this coming Saturday evening (kick-off 5.45pm).
