At long last, FC Zurich have finally won another league game tonight: Thanks to two penalty goals scored by Avi Rikan and several magnificent saves by keeper Yanick Brecher, the team of head coach Urs Meier beat FC Sion 2-1.

FC Sion’s Konaté had the hosts’ first opportunity of the night just 8 minutes in – but Brecher in the Zurich goal was able to save his shot. It took almost half an hour until FC Zurich managed to cause some danger in front of the Sion goal (25th minute): Following a free kick by Oliver Buff, the ball found its way to Alain Nef via Franck Etoundi, and the Zurich defender squeezed the ball over the line. With some delay, the officials decided to disallow this goal for offside though – a very close call indeed.

But the Zurich supporters had reason to cheer just five minutes later when Sion’s Rüfli deflected a center by Francisco Rodriguez with the help of his hand. Avi Rikan converted the penalty and put his side 1-0 in the lead.

Not even 10 minutes into the second half, Rikan got the opportunity to double the visitors‘ lead – the referee had awarded another penalty to FC Zurich after Sion keeper Vanins and Etoundi had bumped into each other. Rikan did not let this chance go by unused and netted in to make the score 2-0.

Although FC Sion’s Follonier managed to get one back just three minutes later and despite countless opportunities for the home team, the visitors from Zurich succeeded in defending their advantage and celebrated a 2-1 away win, grabbing all three points.

FC Zurich will be facing Young Boys Berne in their next home game Sunday afternoon (kick-off 4pm).
