0-1 Loss against Young Boys Berne
FC Zurich have lost their home game against Young Boys Berne 0-1 this afternoon. The only goal was scored by Guillaume Hoarau from the spot.
The visitors from Berne had the first opportunity of the afternoon when Hoarau headed the ball on the Zurich goal following a corner kick by Bertone, but keeper Yanick Brecher managed to save this shot without any problems. The home side had their first chance on 6 minutes; however, Berat Djimsiti did not succeed in heading the ball home after a corner by Francisco Rodriguez. And only three minutes later, Young Boys defender Von Bergen cleared the ball only as far as Kecojevic; his shot was deflected by Vilotic and off target though.
Misfortune ultimately took its course on 37 minutes when referee Sandro Schärer awarded the visitors a penalty out of the blue. Young defender Nico Elvedi had apparently pulled his opponent over in a tackle off the ball. Hoarau converted the spot kick, putting his side 0-1 in the lead.
FC Zurich had their best chance to equalize in the 62th minute: Mario Gavranovic, who had only just got on a few minutes earlier, played a cross to Schneuwly, but he couldn’t control the ball properly and his shot was wide.
FC Zurich gave it their everything to equalize the score during the final minutes of the encounter, but they were unfortunately not able to do so. With this defeat, Zurich’s losing streak at home grows to 9 Super League defeats at the Letzigrund Stadium.
The team of head coach Urs Meier will be facing leaders FC Basel at home next Sunday afternoon (kick-off 4pm).
