FC Zurich have suffered an undeserved 1-2 home defeat against Super League leaders FC Basel this afternoon – Suchy scored the second Basel goal in the 94th minute, after he had touched the ball with his hand and following an offside position.

Approximately 11,600 people in the Letzigrund Stadium saw a rather uneventful first half with only a few scoring opportunities on either side of the pitch. Zurich’s Franck Etoundi had his side’s best chance after about half an hour following a pass by Yassine Chikhaoui, but he didn’t manage to put the ball into the net. Shortly thereafter, the ball found its way into the Zurich goal, but as Basel’s Gashi had fired his shot from an offside position, this goal was rightly disallowed. The visitors from Basel nonetheless took the lead when Davide Callà scored the 0-1 just a few minutes before the half-time whistle.

FC Zurich got back on the pitch determined and were resolutely looking for the equalizer during the second half. And they should have done so on 72 minutes when Etoundi found himself all alone in front of Basel keeper Vaclik – his shot was not well placed though and didn’t trouble the keeper too much. The well-deserved equalizer became a reality in the 86th minute when Ivan Kecojevic headed home a cross by Francisco Rodriguez, putting his side level. And the team from Zurich now wanted victory and tried to grab the three points – and they got very close to achieving this when Etoundi’s header following a cross by Berat Djimsiti was wide. But unfortunately, Suchy scored the 1-2 for FC Basel on 94 minutes – a goal which never should have counted due to a handball in the box and an offside position.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun in their next away game this coming Sunday afternoon.
