1-0 Win against FC Lucerne

FC Zurich Celebrate 4-3 Derby Win

After 11 home games without a win, FC Zurich have finally managed to end their negative series on home turf: In a spectacular Zurich derby – the 242nd in history between the two local rivals – the team of head coach Urs Meier beat Grasshopper Club 4-3 and clinched all three points. And since FC Thun concurrently suffered a defeat against the relegated team from Aarau, Zurich have finished the Swiss Super League season in 3rd place. If FC Basel win the Swiss Cup final against FC Sion on Sunday, June 7, FC Zurich will directly qualify for the group stages of the 2015/16 Europa League season.

The supporters in the Letzigrund Stadium got to see six goals during the first forty-five minutes. Just three minutes in, Ravet stunned the home side with his opener for the visitors; but on 14 minutes, Christian Schneuwly managed to put his side level. Following a successful shot from wide range by Caio which beat Yanick Brecher in the Zurich goal (1-2), Amine Chermiti and Armando Sadiku both scored for FC Zurich, putting their side 3-2 up. However, in injury time of the first half, it was again Ravet who put Grasshopper Club 3-3 level once more. In contrast to the first forty-five minutes, only one goal was scored during the second half: Amine Chermiti got his second of the night in the 73rd minute and after a well-timed pass by Yassine Chikhaoui, securing FC Zurich’s 4-3 victory. Relief and joy among players, coaching staff and fans were palpable once the final whistle had sounded.
