1-1 Draw between FC Zurich and Young Boys Berne

FC Zurich’s 2015/2016 season opener against Young Boys Berne at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight. Head coach Urs Meier was not happy with this result given the home side’s greater share of the action on the pitch – a victory would certainly have been possible.

The hosts had a convincing start to the encounter but unfortunately, none of their many scoring opportunities was converted. Amine Chermiti missed the best of these chances after approximately half an hour: following a nice combination play between Schneuwly and Sadiku, the ball found its way to the Tunisian striker, who however didn’t manage to beat Mvogo in the Young Boys goal from close range. Instead of 1-0 or 2-0, the first half ended 0-0, although FC Zurich were clearly the better team.

The visitors improved their play during the second half; overall, FC Zurich remained the better side though. Contrary to how the game had unfolded so far, Guillaume Hoarau headed the ball home in the 69th minute, putting Young Boys Berne 0-1 up. But the home team was not going to give in and managed to equalize when defender Philippe Koch unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box on 82 minutes following a pass by Davide Chiumiento, putting the score to 1-1. This result remained unchanged until the final whistle.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Vaduz away in their next Super League game this coming Sunday afternoon (kickoff 4pm).
