UEFA Europa League Qualification: FC Zurich Suffer 0-1 Defeat against Dinamo Minsk
FC Zurich have lost the first leg of their third round UEFA Europa League qualifier against Dinamo Minsk 0-1 tonight.
The team of head coach Urs Meier did not show a convincing performance tonight and did not manage to create many scoring opportunities for themselves – or hardly any, actually. The visitors from Belarus didn’t play very offensively either and barely appeared in front of the Zurich goal. In the 63rd minute, however, they took advantage of a blunder in FC Zurich’s defense: Amine Chermiti tried to prevent a cross into the box, whereby the ball got deflected off his hand – referee Hagen (Norway) pointed to the spot and awarded Dinamo Minsk a penalty. Beciraj converted this spot kick, putting his side 0-1 up. This goal was rather unlucky for Zurich keeper Brecher: he had guessed the right corner and got his hands on the ball, but didn’t manage to keep it out. FC Zurich now tried their everything to equalize the score, but missed all of their few chances – Chikhaoui, who had come on for the second half, gave away the best opportunity with his header directly into the goalkeeper’s hands.
The second leg of the third round will be played this coming Thursday evening, August 6th, in Belarus.
