Yassine Chikhaoui Transfers to Al-Gharafa Sports Club in Doha

Yassine Chikhaoui leaves FC Zurich with immediate effect. The 28-year-old is joining Al-Gharafa Sports Club in Qatar. The Tunisian international had a contract with FC Zurich until the summer of 2017.

Since its founding in 1979, Al-Gharafa Sports Club has won the Qatar football championship ("Qatar Stars League") seven times – most recently in 2010 – and claimed seven cup titles.

Yassine Chikhaoui joined FC Zurich from Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the summer of 2007. During the last eight years, the Tunisian played 154 official matches with Zurich’s first team, scoring 30 goals (source: dbfcz.ch). Before the start of last season, Yassine Chikhaoui was appointed captain of the club’s first team, a role which he already held in Tunisia’s national team.

FC Zurich president Ancillo Canepa comments on Yassine Chikhaoui’s transfer as follows: "No one will deny that Yassine is one of the best footballers to ever have played in Switzerland. Unfortunately, he was not always able to call on all of his potential due to several injuries. During the 2014/2015 season, Yassine finally had the opportunity to show what an outstanding and important player he is. I’m happy for him and his family that he can now make this step and transfer abroad.”

We would like to thank Yassine Chikhaoui for his commitment to FC Zurich and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
