FC Zurich Eliminated from the UEFA Europa League

FC Zurich’s second leg of the third round qualifier for the UEFA Europa League against Dinamo Minsk has ended in a 1-1 draw. With this result, the team from Zurich has been eliminated from the competition.

FC Zurich had a perfect start to the game in front of 9,000 spectators in the GOSK Brestskiy Stadium: Just 4 minutes in, Oliver Buff launched his teammate Mario Gavranovic with a deep pass. The striker was unselfish and played a precise ball to the center, where Amine Chermiti netted in without any problems, scoring the 0-1 for the visitors. The encounter subsequently developed into a leveled affair without many scoring opportunities for either team and had to go into extra time. And when probably most of the supporters were starting to think that this game would need to be decided on penalties, Fatos Beciraj crushed FC Zurich’s hopes: Following a corner kick, the Montenegrin player came out on top of Cabral in an aerial duel and tied the score at 1-1 in the 118th minute. FC Zurich had only a few minutes left to show a reaction, but unfortunately, they were not able to do so and got eliminated from the UEFA Europa League.

FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen in their next Super League away game on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 1.45pm).
