Würth Swiss Cup: FC Zurich Beat FC Wohlen 1-0

FC Zurich have won their Würth Swiss Cup away game against FC Wohlen 1-0 tonight and are through to the round of 16.

FC Zurich started the game in a concentrated and disciplined manner and had their first opportunity of the evening just seven minutes in when Di Gregorio narrowly missed the 1-0 for his side with a free kick from 18 meters.

And ten minutes later, Armando Sadiku should have scored the 1-0 for the visitors, but the Albanian striker’s powerful shot from close range went over the crossbar.

The hosts from Wohlen subsequently got into the game a little better, but they did not manage to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities for themselves. And since FC Zurich were also not able to convert any of their numerous chances, the first forty-five minutes ended in a 0-0 draw.

FC Zurich had quite some difficulty to find their way back into the game after the half-time break, and as a consequence, FC Wohlen had a couple of opportunities to open the score. This made FC Zurich’s players become aware of the fact that more commitment and initiative would be required to walk away with a victory tonight. A well-timed shot into the upper corner by Buff was saved by FC Wohlen keeper Tahiraj.

FC Zurich’s supporters had to be patient and wait until the 77th minute, when Oliver Buff finally scored the 1-0 for his colors following a nice delivery by Bua – this turned out to remain the only goal of the night. With this victory, FC Zurich have qualified for the round of 16 of the Würth Swiss Cup, where the team of head coach Sami Hyypiä will be facing Young Boys Berne away on October 28 or 29.
