2-2 against FC Basel – A Well-deserved Point for FC Zurich

The Super League game between FC Zurich and FC Basel has ended in a 2-2 draw this afternoon. FC Zurich showed a very dedicated and active beginning to today’s encounter and were looking for the opener from kick-off. Just three minutes in, Philippe Koch’s header following a delivery by Brunner was marginally wide. The visitors from Basel had an answer at the ready shortly thereafter, but Embolo’s lobbed ball was aimed to high and ended up on top of the goal.

The home team recorded more and the better chances, though, and came closer to the opener on 20 minutes, when a curled shot by Gilles Yapi whizzed past the post – just.

FC Zurich’s efforts were finally rewarded in the 35th minute when Oliver Buff flicked on a corner by Kevin Bua to the far post, where Mario Gavranovic managed to push the ball over the line unchallenged and put his team 1-0 up.

After the half-time break, the visitors got into the game a little better and didn’t have to wait long for the equalizer as Janko scored the 1-1 in the 52nd minute already. FC Zurich tried to show an immediate reaction, though, and created several more promising scoring opportunities for themselves by Gavranovic and Etoundi.

It was the team from Basel, however, which took the lead on 84 minutes when Ajeti found the back of the net. But the team of head coach Sami Hyypiä did not give in yet – and this positive attitude was rewarded deep in injury time when Armando Sadiku smashed the ball home after a precise cross by Bua, equalizing the score yet again – an all in all well-deserved draw and point for FC Zurich.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun away in their next Super League game on Sunday, October 18 (kick-off 1.45pm).
