Würth Swiss Cup: FC Zurich Qualify for the Quarter-finals

FC Zurich have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup tonight. Although the visitors were by no means considered the favorites in this encounter with Young Boys Berne, they nonetheless celebrated a well-deserved 3-1 win at the Stade de Suisse thanks to a solid team performance.

During an evenly balanced first half, the visitors from Zurich created the better chances for themselves, but were unfortunately not able to convert any of them. After the half-time break, Kevin Bua opened the score in the 61st minute: his cross into the box went towards the goal and the ball found its way into the net behind Young Boys keeper Ivon Mvogo. This advantage was not going to last long, though, as Alexander Gerndt equalized the score at 1-1 just three minutes later. The home side now pushed for the lead, but the visitors from Zurich defended themselves well and with all their might. These team efforts were ultimately rewarded in the 83rd minute, when Christian Schneuwly put his colors in front again after a nice delivery by Bua. And on 86 minutes, it was again Kevin Bua who scored his second goal of the evening, putting the final score to 3-1 for FC Zurich and deciding this cup match once and for all.

Already this Sunday afternoon, the team of head coach Sami Hyypiä will be facing the same opponent, Young Boys Berne, in their next Super League away game. Will there be more FC Zurich celebrations then, or will the Young Boys have their say this time round? The game kicks off at 1.45pm.
