The Super League home game between FC Zurich and FC Vaduz at the Letzigrund Stadium has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight. With this result, the team of head coach Sami Hyypiä has missed the first home win of the current season and remains at the bottom of the table.

FC Zurich had a much focused beginning into this game and created two promising scoring opportunities by Mario Gavranovic within the opening ten minutes of the encounter – the first shot was saved by the Vaduz keeper and the second effort by the Zurich striker was off target and whizzed past the post.

On 29 minutes, the home team finally managed to open the score: A corner kick by Vinicius found the head of Alain Nef, who converted this chance, putting his side 1-0 in front. And less than ten minutes later, it was again Nef who could have doubled the home teams lead to two goals – but this time round, his header ended up in the hands of Vaduz keeper Jehle. And since a shot by Sadiku on 42 minutes was marginally wide, the first forty-five minutes ended 1-0 for FC Zurich.

But the first FC Zurich home win of the current season was just not to be – Avdijaj equalized the score in the 69th minute following a blunder in the home side’s defense. FC Zurich pushed for the game-winning goal, and after Avdijaj was shown his second yellow card of the night and sent off on 73 minutes, the home team drew new hope. Their best opportunity only came about in injury time, though, when a shot by Amine Chermiti crashed against the post instead of going in. Consequently, the score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.

FC Zurich will be facing FC Lugano in their next Super League home game on Sunday, November 22 (kick-off 1.45pm).
