After away victories against Young Boys Berne (3-1) and FC Thun (4-1) in this season’s cup competition, FC Zurich have won tonight’s cup semi-final against FC Sion 3-0 and are through to the Würth Swiss Cup final. The team of head coach Sami Hyypiä showed a convincing performance and celebrated a well-deserved win.

Just 10 minutes in, the 1.000 FC Zurich supporters got to celebrate the opener by striker Alexander Kerzhakov at the Stade de Tourbillon: The Russian striker converted coolly following a perfect through ball by Oliver Buff, putting his colors 1-0 up. And just before the half-time whistle, it was again Kerzhakov who doubled the visitors lead to 2-0 with a clinical volley following some confusion in the Sion defense.

After the break, Oliver Buff ultimately settled matters on 50 minutes when he netted in to put the score to 3-0 for FC Zurich. On 74 minutes, FC Sion were awarded a penalty and saw a chance of getting back into this game, but the spot-kick by Theofanis Gekas was aimed too high and went over the crossbar.

With this victory, FC Zurich are through to the Würth Swiss Cup final on May 29th, which will be held at the Letzigrund Stadium. FC Zurich will be facing Super League side FC Lugano and have the opportunity to claim their 9th cup title overall.
