FC Zurich Suffer 2-4 Defeat against Local Rivals Grasshopper Club

FC Zurich have lost their clash with local rivals Grasshopper Club 2-4 this afternoon.

The visitors had a good start to the game and opened the score on eight minutes when Kerzhakov smashed the ball home into the corner after a cross by Brunner.

But unfortunately this advantage was not going to last long and just four minutes later, Grasshopper Club equalized the score – with some help from the Zurich keeper though: Favre’s goal kick ended up in the feet of opposing striker Dabbur, who was not going to let this chance go by unused and scored the 1-1.

And matters got even worse after half an hour: Although Favre managed to save a shot, he was not able to hold onto the ball, giving Caio the opportunity to cash in on the rebound and put his team 2-1 up.

FC Zurich’s task was then not made any easier when Grgic was sent off with his second booking of the afternoon two minutes later.

With Tarashaj’s 3-1 for Grasshopper Club on 53 minutes, the game seemed to be as good as decided. But FC Zurich was not going to give in just yet. They gained new hope when Bua narrowed the gap to just one goal (2-3) on 58 minutes following a perfect delivery by Yapi. But it just wasn’t to be, and Basic even put the score to 4-2 for Grasshopper Club in injury time.

In their next Super League game, FC Zurich will be facing FC Vaduz away next Sunday afternoon, March 20th (kick-off 1.45pm).
