FC Zurich Suffer 2-4 Defeat against Local Rivals Grasshopper Club

FC Zurich Beat FC Vaduz 3-0

In their fight for survival in the Super League, FC Zurich have celebrated an extremely important victory this afternoon. The team of head coach Sami Hyypiä defeated FC Vaduz away 3-0.

The team from Zurich showed a promising start to the match and had considerably more ball possession than their opponents, dominating FC Vaduz from kick-off. But despite this advantage on the pitch, the score remained 0-0 until the end of the first half – also because Oliver Buff was very unlucky when his free-kick bounced off the crossbar on 24 minutes.

FC Zurich kept on pushing for the opener more vehemently during the second half. And their efforts finally proved successful on 54 minutes: Davide Chiumiento launched an attack with Kevin Bua. His cross into the box again found Chiumiento, who kept his cool and netted in to put his side 1-0 up.

The game was then ultimately decided just seven minutes later. Following a free-kick by Buff, the ball hit the hand of Dejan Janjatovic in the box – FC Zurich were awarded a penalty and the FC Vaduz player was sent off. Bua converted this penalty confidently, doubling the visitors’ lead to 2-0. But this was not the end of it just yet: When Bua was fouled in the box in the 74th minute and Zurich were awarded another penalty, Buff converted this second spot-kick of the afternoon to put the final score to 3-0. It was his fifth goal of the season.

In their next Super League game, FC Zurich will be facing FC St Gallen at home on Saturday, April 2nd (kick-off 8pm).
