FC Zurich Celebrate 4-0 Victory against FC St Gallen

In their home game against FC St Gallen tonight, FC Zurich have celebrated another important victory which could prove vital in their fight for survival in the Super League, beating the visitors 4-0. After the game, head coach Sami Hyypiä commented on this win as follows: “Of course, we could have scored a couple more goals, but I am very happy with my team’s performance.”

From kick-off, FC Zurich set up an effective pressing scheme, which repeatedly posed their opponents considerable problems and prompted several bad passes, giving the home side the opportunity to launch some dangerous counterattacks. One of these led to the 1-0 scored by Anto Grgic on 13 minutes – the third goal of the current season for the 19-year-old. And also the 2-0 on 35 minutes by Burim Kukeli was the result of a fast combination play, culminating in an assist by Oliver Buff and Kukeli’s clean finish.

During the second forty-five minutes, FC Zurich retreated a little into their own half, but nonetheless remained the more dangerous team. When Kevin Bua scored the 3-0 four minutes before the final whistle, the game was ultimately decided, albeit not just finished yet as Russian striker Alexander Kerzhakov put the final score to 4-0 for FC Zurich in injury time.

With this victory, FC Zurich have improved their position in the fight to remain in the Super League – even more so as both FC Vaduz and FC Lugano lost their games this weekend. Next Sunday afternoon, FC Zurich will be facing FC Basel away (kick-off 1.45pm).
