FC Zurich Suffer 0-3 Defeat against Young Boys Berne

Following their 1-1 with Grasshopper Club in the Zurich derby last Tuesday evening, FC Zurich have suffered another setback against Young Boys Berne today: the team of head coach Sami Hyypiä lost their away game at the Stade the Suisse 0-3.

During a balanced first half, both teams only managed to create a few scoring opportunities for themselves. As a consequence, it was only logical that the first goal of the afternoon would be the result of a solo effort by Miralem Sulejmani: The Serb’s shot from long range caught Zurich keeper Yannick Brecher off guard as he had ventured out too far.

Just after the half-time break, the second goal for the hosts broke the visitors’ neck on 47 minutes: After a free kick, French striker Guillaume Hoarau got his head on the ball unchallenged and netted in to double his side’s lead to 2-0. And on 60 minutes, Alexander Gerndt put the final score to 3-0. Zurich’s Russian striker Alexander Kerzhakov had the best opportunity for the visitors, but his effort was deflected off target by von Bergen’s foot.

Next Sunday afternoon, FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun in their next Super League away game (kick-off 1.45pm). Winning some points in the fight for survival in the top flight would be more than welcome.
