FC Zurich Suffer 0-3 Defeat against FC St Gallen

2-2 Draw between FC Sion and FC Zurich

During their away game against FC Sion this afternoon, FC Zurich have shown a promising reaction to their 0-3 defeat against FC St Gallen on Whit Monday: Thanks to a 2-2 draw at the Stade de Tourbillon, the team of head coach Uli Forte has grabbed an important point in their fight for survival in the Swiss Super League.

With his 7th goal of the current season, Oliver Buff put the visitors from Zurich in the lead just 16 minutes in – the midfielder was fastest to react and capitalize on a rebound off a Sion defender. Unfortunately, FC Zurich then went through a weak stretch as the home side kept on pushing for the equalizer, which ultimately materialized on 30 minutes when Moussa Konaté took advantage of some confusion in the Zurich defense to level the score at 1-1 – a well-deserved goal all in all.

The visitors then again took the lead during the second half thanks to a magnificent goal by Alexander Kerzhakov (57th minute). The Russian striker headed home a perfectly timed delivery into the box by Vinicius. But this advantage did not last long either as Reto Ziegler again equalized the score just 14 minutes later.

With this draw, FC Zurich remain at the bottom of the Swiss Super League table and will need to win more points than FC Lugano, their rivals for survival in the top flight, in the last game of the season against FC Vaduz on Wednesday evening (kick-off 8.30pm).
