2-0 Home Win against FC Winterthur

FC Zurich Draw FC Wil 1-1

After celebrating a 2-0 victory in their first game of the new season against FC Winterthur last Monday evening, the match between FC Zurich and FC Wil at the IGP Arena has ended in a 1-1 draw tonight.

In front of a record crowd of 4,440 spectators in the heat of this Saturday evening, the supporters got to see an exciting and gripping encounter. During the first forty-five minutes, the visitors from Zurich had more ball possession than their opponents; however, they did not succeed in creating many scoring opportunities for themselves. Consequently, the first goal of the evening was only scored from a set-piece in the 42nd minute, when Oliver Buff curled a free-kick into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

The home side tried to show a reaction to this deficit during the second half, but FC Zurich were still the more dangerous side as they managed to launch several fast counterattacks. Unfortunately though, at least three clear-cut opportunities were left unused. And so it happened that FC Wil’s Jocelyn Roux headed the ball into the Zurich net on 87 minutes, putting the final score to 1-1.

After the final whistle, FC Zurich head coach Uli Forte said that he’s happy with his team’s start to the new season (4 points in 2 games). But he also conceded: “We have to win next Saturday’s home game to be in a position to call it a good start”. FC Zurich will be facing FC Wohlen at home (kick-off 7pm).
